According to police two terrorists were killed in Kreeri area of Baramulla district after security forces launched a predawn operation following information about presence of terrorists at Wanigam village.
Police reported that two terrorists were killed in a pre-dawn operation in Kreeri area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces were acting on information about the presence of terrorists in Wanigam village.
The encounter resulted in the recovery of one AK rifle and a pistol. The Additional Director General of Police, Vijay Kumar, stated that both terrorists were local recruits of Lashkar-e-Taiba who had joined the terrorist group a month ago.
This is the second encounter in 24 hours as the security forces have been on high alert after intelligence inputs that terrorists were preparing for a major attack in the next few days.
Yesterday, two unidentified terrorists were killed during an infiltration bid at the Line of Control in Machil sector of Kupwara district. The Army recovered two AK rifles and arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
The Jammu region has been high on the terrorist radar, and the threat has now spread to the region which was almost free from terrorists. In response to the threat perception, a high alert has been sounded in Jammu, and all Army installations along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway have been put on alert.
Schools inside cantonment areas in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua were closed on Wednesday. Last month, five soldiers were killed in Poonch, and the terrorists decamped with the weapons of the fallen soldiers. A massive cordon and search operation to track down the attackers failed to make a breakthrough.
