Delhi records 416 new Covid cases, highest in over seven months: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal held a review meeting on Friday in the wake of the news that the city recorded 416 new Covid cases on Saturday – the highest in over seven months.
According to a latest health bulletin, the positivity rate in the capital now stands at 14.37%. On Thursday, Delhi reported 295 new Covid cases with a positivity rate of 12.48%.
The spike in cases has caused concern, and the Chief Minister addressed this in the review meeting by reassuring residents that the government is taking all necessary measures. He informed attendees that genome sequencing of all samples that test positive for Covid-19 is being carried out to detect any new variants promptly. Currently, the XBB.1.16 variant is the most prevalent, accounting for 48% of all positive cases. While it spreads rapidly, the Chief Minister noted that it is not severe.

Although no new guidelines have been put in place by the Delhi government with respect to wearing masks in public places.
With the fresh cases, the city’s Covid tally has increased to 20,10,312. The data showed that 2,895 Covid tests were conducted on Friday. According to the health department, 95 of the 7,986 beds are occupied in dedicated Covid hospitals in the city, while 717 patients are in home isolation. The number of active cases of the infection currently stands at 1,216.
India has seen a slight dip in daily coronavirus infections, with 2,995 cases registered in the last 24 hours according to data updated by the union health ministry on Saturday. However, the active caseload has crossed the 16,000-mark.
