Hassan Rouhani, the Iran President warned European nations on Wednesday that Tehran won’t hesitate in taking the next step in increasing the uranium enrichment more close to weapons-grade levels on this coming Sunday. All this will happen until and unless if the European nations do not offer a new deal by then. He also added that the prices will get increased to whatever amount they want.
Rouhani said that, “Our advice to Europe and the United States is to go back to logic and to the negotiating table. Go back to understanding, to respecting the law and resolutions of the U.N. Security Council. Under those conditions, all of us can abide by the nuclear deal”.
The nuclear deal of Iran currently restricts the country to enrich not more than 3.67% of uranium. This much amount is enough for nuclear power plants but is far below the 90% amount required for making weapons.
This week itself, Iran breached the limitation of enriching uranium within the specified limits. However, under the terms of the multinational 2015 nuke deal, Iran is permitted to keep a stockpile of not more than 660 pounds of uranium. Iran pledged to stay within the limits if countries like Britain, France, Germany, and rest of the European Union agreed to provide Iran the access to international banking systems.
The deal made in 2015 has been descending ever since the US withdrew its support in 2018. The original agreement stated sanctions on Iran lifted in exchange of nuclear limits. However, Trump restored sanctions against Iran further weakening the agreement altogether.
In his defense, Trump said that the deal would only put limits on Iran’s nuclear activity and will allow the country to further pursue a nuclear weapon once key points of agreement ends.
Obama, the former President, made a statement claiming that the nuclear deal is working and has rolled back Iran’s nuclear announcement.
