US Vice-President Kamala Harris became the first woman to – briefly – be given presidential powers while Joe Biden underwent a regular health check.
Ms Harris, 57, was in charge for 85 minutes, while Mr Biden was put under sedation for a normal colonoscopy on Friday.
Mr Biden’s primary care physician delivered an assertion after the activity, saying he was sound and ready to execute his obligations.
The clinical assessment came just before the president’s 79th birthday celebration.
Ms Harris completed her obligations from her office in the West Wing of the White House, authorities said.
