Mayhem in Harare as police brutally unleash premeditated violence

Date:

Mdc supporters at Harvest House for the Hope of the Nation Address (Hona) by the opposition leader Nelson Chamisa were ruthlessly clamped down by the police using teargas, water cannons and batons yesterday in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean police patrolled the normally busy central business district (CBD) and fired water cannons at protesters attempting to gather In the CBD after the police attempted to get them inside the Harvest house. A video shows the police asking Mdc members to get inside the harvest house but they denied saying they won’t fit inside, which then triggered the police to charge at the opposition members.

An elderly man is seen with serious head injuries and reports says police delivered countless blows on his head before he ran way with his life.

Undeterred, the supporters overran the police and went marching through CBD singing and chanting slogans denouncing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, which they accused of fomenting economic instability and hunger that stalks many of the jobless Zimbabweans.

Police sprang into action, launching teargas canisters to supporters who had turned into Samora Machel Avenue, heading to the city center, many were injured as police indiscriminately beat up both protesters and innocent by-standers, forcing businesses to shut down.
