Reliance Industries rolled a big announcement at their 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday in Mumbai. The much awaited Reliance Jio GigaFiber was released, service of which will be out commercially from 5th September on the occasion of third anniversary of Reliance Jio.
In past three years, Reliance Jio has crowned as the world’s fastest growing cellular network with more than 340 million subscribers, and 10 million new users signing up every month. After disrupting the businesses of fellow telecom operators, Reliance Jio is now all set to revolutionise India’s home broadband experience.
Jio GigaFiber is embedded with irresistible features like lifetime free voice calls from landlines, voice-enabled virtual assistants, high speed broadband internet, console like interactive gaming experience, and HD TV channels through a 4K set-top box. All these features and more are available at a monthly subscription plan of Rs.700 going all the way up to Rs.10,000.
Reliance is also digging in Mixed Reality and also unveiled the Jio HoloBoard headset it developed with Tesseract, a startup RIL has invested in. It supports GigaFiber and will be up for sale shortly.
Ambani also further revealed the Jio Forever Plans under which, customers opting for an annual GigaFiber subscription can get an HD or 4K LED TV set along with a 4K set-top box free.
The plan also allows the users to watch movies on the day of their release. Reliance calls it ‘Jio First Day First Show’.
Ambani said on the event, “Today many of us pay for and keep track of multiple subscriptions to multiple applications just to watch our favourite movies and shows. This is both expensive and cumbersome. We are substantially simplifying the purchase and consumption of content”.
Though it is currently just launched, complete rollout of Jio GigaFiber is expected within a year. It aims to reach 20 million Indian households and 15 million business establishments of 1,600 towns in India.
