A tragic incident occurred in Gurugram where the police have booked a man and his family members for abetment to suicide following the death of his 30-year-old wife. The deceased, identified as Babita, hailed from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh and had been married to Lalit for two years. Lalit worked in an IT company.
Unfortunately, Babita’s relationship with Lalit and his family progressively deteriorated over time. She allegedly experienced constant harassment and humiliation, which eventually drove her to hang herself late on Monday night. Babita and Lalit also had a child together.
During the investigation, the police discovered a suicide note purportedly written by Babita, in which she held her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law responsible for compelling her to take the extreme step of ending her life. The note expressed her grievances, stating, “You always used to say, Lalit, that marriage is a forced deal, you never understood my pain. You will realize my importance only after I am gone.”
Babita’s brother, Rahul Chauhan, revealed that she had endured six months of suffering before tragically taking her own life. The police have taken custody of the deceased’s body and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the police have filed a case against Lalit Rajput, his parents, brother, and sister-in-law under sections 304-B, 120-B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 304-B deals with dowry death, while Section 120-B pertains to criminal conspiracy, and Section 34 deals with acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention.
The investigation will aim to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and establish the facts surrounding the circumstances leading to Babita’s tragic decision to end her life. The legal proceedings will follow accordingly based on the findings of the investigation.
