New Delhi’s Role in G20 Strengthened as India Hosts Inclusive Presidency

Date:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the nation’s commitment to inclusivity during its G20 presidency, signifying the African Union’s participation at India’s invitation. In his 104th Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi described India’s leadership of the G20 as a “people’s presidency.” Preparations are in full swing for the G20 Leaders Summit in September, boasting unprecedented participation by 40 heads of states and numerous global organizations.

Modi underscored the role of G20’s eleven engagement groups, involving academia, civil society, youth, women, parliamentarians, entrepreneurs, and urban administrators. These diverse groups engage over 1.5 crore people across the nation, embodying the essence of the G20.

Diverging from past conventions of hosting G20 events solely in the national capital, India extended a warm reception to foreign delegates across various cities. The vibrant diversity and democratic spirit of the country left a lasting impression on the delegates, fostering recognition of India’s untapped potential.

During an interaction with Delhi residents ahead of the G20 Leaders Summit, Modi called for their cooperation to ensure its success. Acknowledging potential inconveniences arising from the event, he appealed to citizens to embrace their role as hosts and support the summit’s goals.

The core objective of India’s G20 presidency is the reinforcement of multilateral development banks, aimed at addressing the debt challenges faced by developing economies. Meanwhile, the finance track’s priorities encompass fortifying the international financial framework, financing global public goods, managing global vulnerabilities, addressing economic impacts of food and energy security, and financing sustainable urban centers of the future.

Shifting focus to India’s space endeavors, Modi extolled the symbolic significance of Mission Chandrayaan, illustrating the spirit of a new India that relentlessly seeks victory and triumphs in every situation.

“India and India’s Chandrayaan have proved that some suns of resolve rise on the moon,” he added.
