North Korea has shook the world for yet another time. The country has executed five of their officials for their role in the failed summit between the US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a South Korean newspaper cited. According to Bloomsberg News report, North Korea’s special envoy to the US, Kim Hyok Chol was shot dead by the firing squad in March. The reason given for his execution was that he was won over by the American imperialists to betray the supreme leader.
The newspaper also revealed that the other four officials were also executed the same month because of the failed summit in February in Vietnam and Hanoi. However, the newspaper did not provide any further details. Kim Yong Chol, another official who followed the Hanoi summit with the Vice President Mike Pence, is also punished with forced labor and ideological education. All these facts were cited by the South Korean newspaper.
However, some of the officials from North Korea have expressed hesitation over the reports claiming that Pyongyang’s isolated nature makes it hard to actually justify who may or may not have been pinned down by the North Korean leader’s regime. A number of officials have been rumored to be disappeared or even executed only to reappear in public several months later.
Even though Trump has mentioned several times that Kim is a very smart man, US relations with North Korea has declined ever since the summit in Hanoi. Despite Trump’s tout of his relationship with Kim, things aren’t going good between the two nations. Trump is also in a denial mode when asked whether Pyongyang had fired any ballistic missiles in violations of the US resolutions. However, his own official John Bolton said that there is no doubt North Korea has just done that.
When the US officials like national security advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged the President Trump to take a strict stand against North Korea, the country is on its way to be more antagonist towards these officials.
