Emily Blunt and Chris Evans Team Up for a Dose of ‘Pain Hustlers’
In their upcoming film “Pain Hustlers,” directed by BAFTA award winner David Yates, Emily Blunt and Chris Evans step into unfamiliar roles as they embark on a gripping journey into the complex world of a struggling pharmaceutical start-up. David Yates, the visionary director behind the film, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “From the very first minute of talking to Emily, I knew we’d found our Liza Drake. Emily was inspired by the character and the world, and along with Chris, she shared our vision of creating a film that was both entertaining and thought-provoking, shedding light on the opioid crisis.”
Get a sneak peek at these two exceptional actors in the teaser above and make sure to mark your calendars for the release of “Pain Hustlers” on Netflix on October 27th – it’s a prescription you won’t want to miss.
What is “Pain Hustlers” About?
Liza Drake (played by Blunt) is a hardworking single mother who finds herself at the end of her rope after losing her job. A chance encounter with pharmaceutical sales representative Pete Brenner (played by Evans) propels her onto an upward trajectory economically but leads her down an ethically dubious path as she becomes entangled in a dangerous racketeering scheme.
As she grapples with her increasingly unhinged boss (Garcia), her daughter’s deteriorating health (Chloe Coleman), and a growing awareness of the devastation caused by the company, Liza is forced to reevaluate her choices. “Pain Hustlers” is a sharp and revealing exploration of what drives some individuals to desperate measures and others to greed. The film is produced by Lawrence Grey.
Yates shared his thoughts on the project, stating, “I was intrigued by the pharma world, particularly the low-rent end of it, the workaday reps and sales teams striving to make a living in a hugely competitive business of dealing with people’s pain. I loved the characters [screenwriter Wells Tower] was creating on the page, and his writing.”
Who is in the Cast of “Pain Hustlers”?
Blunt and Evans lead an exceptional ensemble cast that includes Garcia, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James, and Chloe Coleman.
Yates praised Blunt’s dedication to her role, saying, “Emily was probably the most prepared actor I’ve ever worked with. She comes to set with a game plan every single day and knows exactly what she wants to explore in the architecture of the human being that she’s playing.”
As for Evans, Yates relished the opportunity to subvert the actor’s traditional all-American hero image. “Casting Chris Evans for that was a delight because his clean-cut, alpha male, heroic demeanor is completely turned on its head when you cast him as a sleazebag pharma sales rep,” he said. “I’d seen him do a couple of things that really surprised me previously. I love seeing an actor do something surprising.”
When is the “Pain Hustlers” Release Date?
After its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, “Pain Hustlers” will hit select theaters on October 20th before streaming on Netflix starting October 27th.
