Air India, the national flag carrier airline of India, has been in the news recently for an incident that has been dubbed “Pee-Gate.” On 26 November 2022, the incident occurred on a flight from New York to Delhi, on which a drunk passenger peed on a woman has been suspended for three months by the aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation.

The incident happened in flight which was carrying around 300 passengers, the passenger Shankar Mishra somehow ended up being drunk on-board and peed on another woman passenger.

The day after the incident happened  the woman wrote to the chairman about the horrible incident to the Air India group chairman. On January 6 Shankar Mishra was arrested, six weeks after the incident.

A penalty of rupees three lakh has also been imposed on director-in-flight services of Air India for “failing to discharge her duties” by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The incident has caused a significant public backlash against Air India, with many calling for an investigation into the airline’s handling of the situation. Many have criticised the flight crew for their decision to continue on to London, rather than making an emergency landing to address the issue. Others have criticised the airline for a lack of communication and assistance for the passengers during the incident.

Air India has issued a statement apologising for the incident and promising to take “all necessary steps” to ensure that a similar incident does not happen in the future. The airline also announced that it will be providing compensation to the victim.

On January 6, The DGCA had issued a show-cause notice to the Accountable Manager of Air India, the Director of in-flight Services of Air India, and all the pilots and cabin crew members of that flight as to why enforcement action should not be taken against them for dereliction of their regulatory obligations.

The incident has also attracted attention from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulatory body for civil aviation in India. The DGCA has announced that it will be conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the technical issue and to determine if there were any violations of safety regulations.

The “Pee-Gate” incident has caused significant damage to Air India’s reputation and has raised serious questions about the airline’s ability to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers. Many have called for stricter regulations and oversight of the airline industry in India to ensure that similar incidents do not happen in the future.

It is important to note that the lavatories issue not only causes inconvenience to the passengers, but also poses a serious safety risk. In such situations, the crew should have made the emergency landing as soon as possible. The DGCA’s investigation will reveal the exact cause of the technical issue and if it was a maintenance issue, it will be a serious concern.

Overall, this incident is a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers, and the need for rigorous oversight of the airline industry to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Air India must take all necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur again and regain the trust of their passengers.

An incident involving a drunk passenger on-board peeing on another passenger is a serious matter that can have severe consequences for all involved. Such incidents not only cause physical and emotional harm to the victim, but can also lead to legal action against the offender and the airline.

When a drunk passenger is found to be causing a disturbance on-board, the airline’s crew should take immediate action to address the situation. This may include restraining the passenger, escorting them off the flight, or involving law enforcement if necessary. The airline should also provide medical assistance to the victim and ensure that they receive any necessary care and support.

In conclusion, an incident involving a drunk passenger on-board peeing on another passenger is a serious matter that can have severe consequences for all involved. The airline has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers on-board and take appropriate action to address the behavior of the drunk passenger. The offender also faces legal charges and can face fines, imprisonment, and a criminal record. The incident can also lead to a lawsuit against the airline for negligence. It is important for the airline to have strict protocols in place to handle such situations and to provide support to the victim.
