Turkey’s Defense Ministry speaks the primary shipment of a Russian missile defense system has reached in Turkey, a development that could move the nation closer to U.S. sanctions.
The ministry said the first transport of the S-400 air defense systems reached on Friday at an air base near the capital, Ankara.
The United States has cautioned Turkey it will face economic permissions if it goes ahead with the acquisition of a Russian missile defense system. It has also said Turkey won’t be permitted to contribute in the program to produce the high-tech F-35 fighter jets.
Turkey has declined to bow to U.S. pressure, claiming that selecting which equipment to buying is a matter of national authority.
