Most Anticipated Upcoming Movies for 2022
Avatar: The way of water
It’s been 84 years for Pandora and 12 years for us, yet it feels like a lifetime since we first saw the distant moon of Pandora with its blue-skinned aliens. Jakesully and Neytiri have formed a family among the Navi, but when trouble arises, the group must go to different regions of the globe to confront humans. Director James Cameroon is back with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Yeoh, Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver, and the team for the second installment of his hit in December 2022.
Aquaman and the Lost kingdom
We were obsessed with Aquaman after it was revealed to be the most excellent DC live-action film of the current era, so the announcement of a sequel is fantastic news. Because this film will most likely have even more to do with Black Manta’s nemesis and the people above the water who are hunting him down. James Wan is back with Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for the return of Aquaman in late 2022.
Halloween Ends
However, there have been many memorable follow-ups to the original Halloween, including M. Night’s The Village and Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. While none of these sequels have matched the power of the original in terms of story or terror, they nevertheless succeeded in setting new standards for 70s gore effects.
David Gordon Green’s second reboot, Halloween Kills, was a disappointment after the first. It spent too much time with uninteresting ancillary people and kept Jamie Lee Curtis locked up in a hospital for far too long. Hopefully, they were stalling so they could give a three-quel that would be a barnburner and send everyone’s favorite denim-wearing serial killer Michael Myers out on a high note. At the very least, when Myers is inevitably resurrected again.
Mission: Impossible 7
Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie and a slew of former MI: cast members, including the incomparable Henry Czerny as the initial IMF Hunt-agitator Eugene Kittridge, return for another adventure with indestructible super-spy Ethan Hunt. Even though these films become more complex, they are still very amusing, and it would be a mistake to bet against Cruise and McQuarrie at this stage.
Bullet Train
Following his Academy Award win for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt stars in his own John Wick-like action movie from David Leitch, the co-director of John Wick and other action films such as Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. As you undoubtedly guessed from the title and the names involved, Pitt plays an assassin traveling on a bullet train.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Who isn’t looking forward to a new Thor movie? Thor is, without a doubt, the strangest and most enjoyable of Marvel’s heroes (excluding maybe the Guardians of the Galaxy). This time around, it appears that Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will get her hands on the legendary hammer.
Elvis
Austin Butler plays the titular King in this biopic about Elvis Presley, directed by Baz Luhrmann, and stars Jack Quaid. Since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, Luhrmann hasn’t made a feature film, but he’s back with this biopic about The King with Austin Butler, who had a small role in Once Upon a time in Hollywood.
Lightyear
Apparently, Buzz Lightyear toy from the Toy Story films isn’t just an action figure but a fictitious property from a popular sci-fi film? He essentially acts as the film’s young Andy saw that made him want a Buzz of his own so badly, which he did in this experience. Even if Disney has a glut of original stories and spinoffs these days, the Pixar animation appears magnificent in an interstellar Space Ranger setting. Chris Evans playing Buzz is likely to take us to infinity and beyond.
Top Gun: Maverick
In this new installment of Top Gun, Tom Cruise continues getting back to a fighter jet in this long-anticipated sequel to his 1986 Tony Scott flight school adventure, which chronicled his training to become an air force pilot. The sequel will see Miles Teller reprise his role as Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Anthony Edwards’ Goose from the original. Expect plenty of life lessons and robust action in the next installment in the franchise.
