The UK has recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 24.8C in Porthmadog, north Wales.
The previous record for the year was 24.3C, which was set in London on May 16.
The hot weather is expected to continue in the UK over the next few days, with temperatures forecast to reach 27C in some parts of the country.
Both Scotland and Northern Ireland have experienced their highest temperatures of 2023 thus far. In Tyndrum, Stirling, the mercury rose to 24.2°C, while in Castlederg, County Tyrone, it reached 24.1°C. These temperature readings mark the peak values recorded in both regions this year.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heat-health, with the warning in place for southern and central England from 9am on Tuesday until 9am on Friday.
The warning states that “some vulnerable people may be at risk of serious illness or heatstroke, particularly if they are not taking precautions.”
The Met Office is advising people to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
The UK recorded its highest-ever temperature in July 2022 in Coningsby, Lincolnshire at 40.3C.
