US President Joe Biden to visit India on Sept 7 for G-20 Summit

Date:

United States President Joe Biden is scheduled to embark on a visit to India to participate in the upcoming G-20 Summit, taking place from September 7 to September 10. This significant summit is being held during India’s presidency of the G-20, showcasing its role as a key platform for international economic collaboration.

The G-20 Summit, an assembly of the world’s major developed and developing economies, commonly referred to as the Group of Twenty, will convene in India next month, marking a significant milestone. This forum serves as a premier arena for addressing pressing global economic concerns.

An unprecedented scale of engagement is anticipated for India’s G-20 Presidency, with over 12,300 delegates hailing from more than 110 nations expected to participate in person. This attendance is set to be the largest gathering of its kind ever hosted by a G-20 member country.

During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States in June, President Biden expressed his anticipation and enthusiasm for the G-20 Summit in India.

A collaborative statement issued by India and the US underscored President Biden’s appreciation for India’s leadership in its ongoing G20 Presidency. This leadership is noted for its emphasis on bolstering multilateral institutions and fostering international cooperation to confront global challenges such as climate change, pandemics, fragility, conflict, and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, the groundwork is being laid for robust, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth.

In anticipation of President Biden’s visit to India in September, US official Donald Lu conveyed the President’s eagerness to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Lu emphasized that this will mark President Biden’s inaugural trip to India as part of the G-20 Leaders Summit, fostering anticipation for the developments ahead in the coming months.

Expressing gratitude for India’s instrumental role in hosting the G-20 Foreign Ministerial meeting the previous month, Lu conveyed eagerness for the United States to actively engage in multiple forthcoming G-20 gatherings throughout the year. These engagements include the notable New Delhi Leaders Summit, scheduled for September, further cementing the collaborative efforts on the G-20 stage.
