As the ICC Cricket World Cup has kick-started, teams from different countries will fight their way to win the elite World Cup trophy. With India playing their first league match today against South Africa, all eyes were on the Men in Blue as they are considered a team most likely to lift the cup. The innings started with South Africa winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Hampshire Bowl. None of the South African batsmen were good enough on the field in the first innings with a majority of them getting out below 30 runs.
Indian bowlers did a great job with Bhuvaneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah bagging 2-2 wickets each. However, a stellar performance by Yujvendra Chahal left the South African batsmen awstruck as he took off four of their crucial wickets. South Africa set a target of 227/9 in 50 overs.
When India batsmen made their way to the field, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were at the spotlight with fans expecting something extraordinary from their bat. Dhawan, however, couldn’t meet the expectations fans has for him, whereas Rohit did a commendable job by scoring whopping 122 runs not out.
He was accompanied by Hardik Pandya who scored a blazing 15 runs off just 7 balls. MS Dhoni too contributed by scoring 34 runs. South African bowlers couldn’t deliver the performance they should have with only Rabada getting 2 wickets and Chris Morris and A Phehlukwayo getting a wicket each.
Overall it was a great start for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
