The Pakistani Air Force carried out airstrikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday that killed at least 30 civilians, including women and children. Eight LS-6 bombs were dropped on the Matre Dara village in the Tirah Valley by Pakistani fighter jets at around two in the morning, resulting in a massive carnage.
They were all civilians who died.
Numerous more have apparently been hurt, according to local media, however it’s still unknown what happened to them.
Unsettling images and videos from the scene of the tragedy revealed victims laying about, including those of youngsters. There were concerns that the death toll may increase as rescue crews searched beneath the debris for remains.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has had numerous counterterrorism operations in the past, with numerous civilian fatalities reported from the area. Amnesty International stated in June of this year that frequent drone attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa indicate a concerning disrespect for civilian life in Pakistan.
“Pakistani authorities have failed to take action to protect the lives and property of civilians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who continue to pay the price of an escalating number of drone strikes in the province. Last Friday’s drone strike, killing one child, is part of an alarming series of attacks which have escalated since March of this year”, according to Isabelle Lassee, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for South Asia.
Between January and August of this year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police reported 605 terror attacks in which 79 Pakistani police officers and at least 138 civilians were killed. There were 129 events in August alone, including the murders of six members of the Pakistan Army and the paramilitary Federal Constabulary.
Terrorists from Pakistan are moving bases.
Following the destruction of nine significant terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during Operation Sindoor, terrorist groups like Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are setting up new bases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, close to the Afghan border. Natural concealment is provided by the province’s hilly geography and its borders with Afghanistan. Hideouts constructed during the 1980s anti-Soviet Afghan conflict and the US invasion of Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks can still be found in several locations.
