After Op Sindoor, 15 civilians killed, 43 injured in Pakistan shelling in Poonch

Date:

After India began ‘Operation Sindoor’ in reaction to the Pahalgam tragedy, in which terrorists killed 26 people, predominantly tourists, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling and indiscriminate firing along the LoC and the International Border, killing up to 15 Indians and injuring 43 more.

Pakistan used heavy shelling and random fire along the Line of Control and the International Border late Tuesday night, killing up to 15 Indians and injuring 43 others in the Poonch and Tangdhar areas of Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Army. The reaction was a short time after India began ‘Operation Sindoor’ in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at 1.05 am, launching a 25-minute barrage of precision attacks against nine terror camps associated with three terror groups: Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

At ground zero, India Today TV saw Pakistani shelling destroy homes along the LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir. Images displayed fully destroyed homes, debris piled up everywhere, and broken glass near windows.

According to defense sources who spoke to India Today TV, the Army reacted quickly to the cross-border firing, severely damaging several Pakistan Army installations in the Rajouri-Poonch and Kupwara sectors and resulting in numerous military losses.

Following a raid by Pakistani soldiers on the central Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sahib in Poonch district, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal took to X to claim that three Gursikhs were among the ten people murdered. Three people were killed: Bhai Ranjit Singh, Bhai Amarjeet Singh, and Bhai Amrik Singh Ji, a ragi Singh.

“The Shiromani Akali Dal expresses complete solidarity with the families of the deceased Gursikhs and prays for peace for the departed and courage for their friends and loved ones. We demand that the martyrs be honoured for their sacrifice and that the bereaved families receive adequate compensation to support them in their time of grief. The Sikhs have always been, and will continue to be, the sword arm of the country. We stand like a rock with our armed forces. Although the Shiromani Akali Dal and our country stand for peace, if our honour is challenged by the enemy, we need no reminder to fulfill our patriotic duties,” he tweeted.

According to sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered the evacuation of residents in the vicinity of the LoC and the IB while the fire continues. He speaks on the phone with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir, and Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary of the Border Security Force. Shah has ordered officials to relocate civilians to safer areas, according to the sources, emphasizing that India’s top concern is ensuring their safety.

India described the strikes as a “focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature” action and referred to them as a component of “Operation Sindoor.” India targeted the very infrastructure in Pakistan and the PoK where attacks against India have been planned and directed as part of its calibrated reaction, the administration said in a statement.

The Subham Allah camp in Bahawalpur and Masjid wa Markaz Taiba in Muridke, both JeM and LeT strongholds, were two of the important locations that the Indian strikes targeted. Gulpur, Sawai, Bilal camp, Kotli camp, Barnala camp, Sarjal camp, and Mehmoona camp are the remaining seven sites in Pakistan and the PoK that India has targeted.

Images obtained only by India Today showed that Indian strikes had destroyed the Subhan Allah camp. According to a statement released by Jaish head Masood Azhar, the strikes claimed the lives of four close allies and ten members of his family, including his older sister and her husband.

The Air Force pilots involved in the operation were safe, and all nine targets were hit successfully, according to reports. The strikes have killed over 80 terrorists associated with the three terror groups.
