The Cupertino-based tech company is expected to showcase four new devices at its California headquarters sometime next month, marking the arrival of the new iPhone 17 series. Nevertheless, new information regarding the highly anticipated foldable iPhone, which appears to be scheduled for release next year, is starting to surface ahead of the 2018 iPhone debuts.
The foldable iPhone has been internally nicknamed V68, according to a claim by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. It will resemble the smartphones from Samsung’s Z Fold series, which unfold into a tiny, tablet-like form factor.
There are four cameras in Apple’s first foldable iPhone, according to the report—two on the back, one on the inside, and one on the front. However, it is rumored that the phone does not have a SIM card port and may employ Touch ID rather than Face ID, which could make it rather inferior to iPhones of the current generation.
According to reports, Apple suppliers have begun developing the new model, with plans to increase production early in the upcoming year for a “fall” release. This suggests that the foldable iPhone may be delivered concurrently with the iPhone 18 series.
According to earlier reports, the basic iPhone 18 model may be delayed until 2027, and the foldable iPhone may be delivered concurrently with the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Returning to the foldable iPhone, Gurman notes that Apple’s intentions may change over time, but it is currently only being tested in black and white color variants, indicating that there may not be many color options. Additionally, it is anticipated that the phone would use Apple’s C2 modem rather than Qualcomm’s cellular modem.
Regarding the display, it was believed that Apple intended to use a different technology than the ones found in the current iPhones, such as on-cell touch. However, this might result in air gaps between the screen and the cover, which would make the crease on the device appear more noticeable. According to recent reports, the tech giant is switching to a new in-cell touchscreen that is more similar to the technology used in the current iPhones. According to reports, the foldable iPhone’s revolutionary display technology will increase touch precision and lessen the visibility of the crease.
