The announcement of the next Chief Minister for Rajasthan has brought a new face to the forefront, with first-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma securing the position. Ending days of speculation following the BJP’s victory in the assembly polls, this unexpected choice was revealed after a meeting of the newly elected BJP MLAs.
The leader of the legislature party was elected from Sanganer, and the proposal for Bhajanlal Sharma’s candidacy came from former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who had herself been considered as a potential contender for the position.
In addition to the chief ministerial appointment, Rajasthan is set to have two Deputy Chief Ministers – Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa. The decision was communicated by BJP central observer for Rajasthan, Rajnath Singh, who also announced that Vasudev Devnani would assume the role of the Speaker.
This move reflects the BJP’s strategy of bringing new leadership into key positions, as demonstrated by the selection of Bhajanlal Sharma as the Chief Minister.
