On Sunday, August 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open two significant highway projects in Delhi that will cost close to ₹11,000 crore. At 12:30 pm, the PM will also speak to the public at the event in Rohini.
Initiatives to lessen traffic in Delhi
According to a PIB release, the two projects—Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and Dwarka Expressway (Delhi section)—are a part of the government’s broader strategy to lessen traffic congestion in the capital.
According to the statement, these projects are intended to increase road connectivity, shorten travel times, and facilitate commuting throughout Delhi and the adjacent districts.
Dwarka Expressway: Important information
- At an approximate cost of ₹5,360 crore, the 10.1 km Delhi segment of the Dwarka Expressway was constructed.
- It will provide multimodal access to the Yashobhoomi convention center, the Blue and Orange lines of Delhi Metro, the future Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot.
- The segment is separated into two sections:
-Package I: 5.9 miles to the Road Under Bridge in Dwarka Sector-21 from the Shiv Murti intersection
-Package II: 4.2 km to the Delhi-Haryana border from Dwarka Sector-21, with a direct connection to UER-II
In March 2024, Prime Minister Modi officially opened the Haryana segment of the Dwarka Expressway, which is 19 km long.
Stretching UER-II to improve NCR connectivity
The ₹5,580 crore Alipur to Dichaon Kalan section of UER-II will also be inaugurated by the prime minister.
- The Inner Ring route, Outer Ring Road, Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH09 in Delhi will all see less traffic thanks to this new route.
- It features new connections to Sonipat and Bahadurgarh, which would enhance industrial connectivity and expedite the flow of products within the National Capital Region.
- According to officials, the project would also assist in rerouting large vehicles, which will lessen the strain on city highways.
