Gurgaon: GMRL plans to begin building by September of this year and is expected to award the contract for the first phase of Millennium City Centre-Cyber City in a month.
Bids for the first phase of the new metro system are now available, officials announced on Sunday. Although the procedure is still being reviewed, the joint venture of Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) and RBL has emerged as the lowest bidder for the construction contract, they stated.
According to a senior GMRL official, “The evaluation is in the final stages. We expect to complete the process within this month and are aiming to start construction work by Sept. Once work begins, the project is slated for completion within 30 months,” The new corridor will be built in three stages, according to GMRL’s proposal.
At an estimated cost of Rs 1,503 crore, the agency will construct a 15.2km elevated metro line under Phase 1 from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. Eight agencies participated in the Phase 1 civil work procurement, which was released in March of this year. Following technical review, six of these agencies were determined to be eligible. It is anticipated that this 14-station segment will provide access to important residential and commercial districts in both Gurgaon’s older and more recent neighborhoods.
A ramp leading to the projected metro depot in Sector 33 and a 1.8 km spur to the Dwarka Expressway are also included in the scope of development. Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, and Sector 101 are the stations situated in between.
In 2023, the Union Cabinet authorized the new corridor to meet the city’s expanding public transportation requirements. The Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line, which ends at Millennium City Centre, and the Rapid Metro are currently available in Gurgaon. It is anticipated that the new line will reduce traffic, particularly in places that are not currently served by the metro, such as crowded districts like sectors 9, 4, 5, 10, and 7.
