Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings as the nation celebrated Holi 2026, wishing citizens joy, harmony, and prosperity. President Droupadi Murmu, senior opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Shrinath and international dignitaries such as Australia’s Anthony Albanese also shared festive messages, reflecting the spirit of unity associated with the occasion.
The festival, symbolising the triumph of good over evil, began with traditional Holika Dahan bonfires on March 3, followed by vibrant colour celebrations across the country. Film personalities like Preity Zinta and several IPL franchises added to the festive mood with cheerful social media posts and public interactions.
While celebrations brought enthusiasm in India and abroad, some reports from densely crowded regions such as Braj highlighted incidents of unruly behaviour and forceful colour application, raising concerns about women’s safety. Authorities and community leaders have reiterated the importance of consent, respectful celebration, and vigilant policing to ensure that the festival remains joyful and secure for all.
