After Bloomberg revealed that Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX, ETR:NFC) is in talks to license video podcasts from the media firm, iHeartMedia Inc. (NASDAQ: IHRT) shares increased by 25% on Tuesday.
According to Bloomberg, which cited people with knowledge of the situation, Netflix is vying for the sole rights to video versions of iHeartMedia’s well-known podcasts. This would stop complete episodes from being posted on YouTube.
Netflix would be able to more directly compete with YouTube in the video podcast market thanks to this strategy.
In addition to producing podcasts like “The Breakfast Club” and “Las Culturistas,” iHeartMedia also owns a number of radio stations around the United States.
The proposed deal would give iHeartMedia a new revenue stream and distribution channel.
Netflix and Spotify reached a similar agreement last month, with Netflix adding a number of Spotify’s most well-liked video podcasts to its streaming service starting in early 2026.
