Apple is gearing up to unveil the iPhone 17 series next month, introducing four new models powered by iOS 26. Excitement is building, but potential tariff hikes could drive up prices. In the US, the iPhone 17 is expected to start at $849, while the iPhone 17 Air may have a starting price of $949.
Next month, Apple’s iPhone 17 series—which will run the most recent version of iOS 26—will make its debut. At its September launch event, the Cupertino-based tech giant is anticipated to introduce four new models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new, thin, and light iPhone 17 Air.
Although the precise launch date is still unknown, if Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the smartphones should be unveiled in early September. With leaks regarding possible features and pricing coming out of the rumor mill, anticipation is already high.
However, it is unclear if Apple would keep or raise its prices from last year due to US President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” on China and India, two significant iPhone production hubs.
Will the iPhone 17 Series Cost More Than the iPhone 16?
Based on projections from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, MacRumors claims that the iPhone 17 series would “probably” cost more than its predecessor in the US.
Pu blamed the potential price increase on new US tariffs on goods imported from China and India in a research note earlier this week.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, earlier announced a $100 billion investment in the US to bring more of the company’s advanced production and supply chain domestic during a White House press conference with President Trump.
Apple has apparently been spared from some of the new tariff regime as a result of this investment. The Wall Street Journal claims that the United States will levy a 20% tariff on iPhone imports from China and a 0% duty on those from India.
Cook has previously said that India produced the majority of the iPhones sold in the US between April and June. India used to make up a small portion of Apple’s supply chain, but today it produces 14% of the flagship iPhone.
Pricing expectations for the iPhone 17 series
A $50 price hike over the iPhone 16 series was suggested by a leak from Chinese tipster Instant Digital. If correct, the starting price of the iPhone 17 in the US might be $849, which is equivalent to about ₹89,900 in India.
While the iPhone 17 Pro might cost $1,199 (about ₹1,45,900), the new iPhone 17 Air might start at $949 (approximately ₹99,900). The most expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max may retail for $1,249, or around ₹1,64,900.
