On October 30, ISRO successfully deployed the 2,250 kg NVS-03 navigation satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit via a GSLV-F18 rocket from Sriharikota. Reaching its target orbit just 18 minutes after liftoff, the satellite marks the third next-generation addition to the NavIC constellation. Equipped with an indigenous Rubidium atomic clock and L1 signal capabilities, NVS-03 restores NavIC’s core four-satellite operational baseline, providing precise positioning across India and up to 1,500 km beyond its borders. Designed for a 12-year operational lifespan, the mission significantly enhances national self-reliance by reducing dependence on foreign GPS for defense, navigation, and disaster management—an achievement commended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on x: “Congratulations to our scientists and engineers at ISRO on the successful launch of GSLV-F18 carrying NVS-03.
This mission marks an important step in strengthening NavIC, our indigenous satellite navigation system. Equipped with enhanced capabilities, NVS-03 will further our pursuit of self-reliance in critical technologies and support navigation services that benefit our people.
The dedication and ingenuity of our space scientists continue to make our nation proud.”
