JioHotstar, the OTT (over-the-top) platform of the biggest media conglomerate in India, has surpassed one billion downloads on Google Play in India, joining Netflix, the world’s largest streaming service, in this market.
This comes after the platforms’ already fierce competition for subscribers. According to a person familiar with the situation, JioHotstar, which debuted in February as the merged platform of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, currently has over 300 million customers. However, according to Bloomberg Consensus, Netflix, which is available in over 190 countries, has roughly 309.8 million users as of September.

According to the source with knowledge of the development, JioHotstar dominates the OTT market in the nation with more than 500 million monthly active users. The e-commerce giant’s free streaming service, Amazon MX Player, is the other significant platform in India with more than one billion downloads on Google Play, behind Netflix. On Google Play, Prime Video has been downloaded more than 500 million times.
