The president of the UN Security Council expressed alarm over growing tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations and suggested that the Council may convene “sooner rather than later” to consider the situation between India and Pakistan.

“Of course, if a request comes for a meeting, then…I think this meeting should take place because, as we said, maybe it’s also an opportunity to have views expressed and this might help to diffuse a bit tensions. We will see,” In answer to a query from news agency PTI, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris, Greece’s Permanent Representative to the UN and May Security Council president, stated.
