Shimla: On Tuesday night, a landslide caused by heavy rain struck a private bus in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, killing fifteen persons.
According to officials, 15 bodies have been found so far among the mangled remnants of the bus that was struck by boulders during a landslide caused by rain in Bilaspur’s Balughat neighborhood of Jhanduta subdivision. There were between 28 and 30 people on the bus.
On October 7, Bilaspur received 12.7 mm of rain. At least three individuals have been taken off the unfortunate bus and taken to a Berthin hospital.
The bus was traveling from Marottan to Ghumariwin when the landslide struck it at approximately 6:30 p.m., according to police officials.
A private bus was struck by a piece of the mountain, according to the authorities. Rescue and relief efforts are under progress. In order to remove debris, JCBs have been put into duty.
In Bhalu, close to Barthi, a landslide caused the accident. There were reportedly between 25 and 30 people on the bus. Stones and debris fell on the bus’s roof, crushing it totally.
Rescue efforts continued late into the night as personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local government, and law enforcement hurried to the scene.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the deaths in the accident and promised the families of the deceased ₹2 lakh in ex-gratia.
Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister, sent his sincere sympathies for the terrible accident. He prayed for the peace of the departed souls and offered condolences to the deceased. He declared that the state government will do everything in its power to support the impacted families during this trying period.
The Chief Minister has instructed the district administration to further speed up relief and rescue efforts and maintains continuous communication with them. Additionally, he gave them instructions to make sure that the injured are sent to hospitals right once and that proper plans are made for their care. From Shimla, the Chief Minister keeps a close eye on the situation.
Mukesh Agnihotri, the deputy chief minister, acknowledged that 15 people had perished. According to him, 18 people in all, including 15 dead, have been found so far. He went on to say that the exact number of people on the bus is yet unknown.
