A California legislator wants Nick Bosa traded, even though it would be a stupid move on the part of the San Francisco 49ers.
When Bosa wore a MAGA hat after San Francisco’s victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, it garnered media attention earlier this week. Bosa, wearing the hat, approached from behind Brock Purdy, pointed at it, and left while he was being interviewed.
Robert Rivas, the 71st speaker of the California State Assembly, was not pleased with the action.
“I hope [49ers CEO] @JedYork trades Nick Bosa to Mar-A-Lago. As a lifelong @49ers fan, I can say I’ve seen enough of Bosa in California,” Rivas posted on X. But now this tweet has been deleted.
Bosa was quoted by Rivas in the post, stating that he would “not talk too much about” donning the hat, simply that it was “an important time.”
Bosa can get fined for the headwear. When it comes to what players can and cannot wear when they arrive at the stadium on game day, the NFL rulebook specifies this in Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8.
“The League will not grant permission for any club or player to wear, display, or otherwise convey messages, through helmet decals, arm bands, jersey patches, mouthpieces, or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment, which relate to political activities or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns, or charitable causes or campaigns. Further, any such approved items must be modest in size, tasteful, non-commercial, and non-controversial; must not be worn for more than one football season,” the rule reads.
NFL Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher was among those who supported Bosa despite the criticism he received for wearing his MAGA hat.
