Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 Reaches Orbit on First Flight

Date:

Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace has made history by launching Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital rocket. Named Aagaman (“arrival”), the four-stage rocket launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre carrying test payloads, technology demonstrators, and an Indian flag. The successful mission validates the system for future commercial rideshares of up to 350 kg to low Earth orbit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the launch a defining moment, while ISRO and other leaders praised the space reforms that enabled the achievement. Founded in 2018, Skyroot follows its 2022 suborbital success by positioning India alongside the U.S. and China in private orbital capabilities.
