Swine Flu & Influenza B Surge in Delhi: 54% Households Affected

Date:

Hospitals throughout the city have reported an increase in patients afflicted with the Influenza B and H1N1 (swine flu) viruses, contributing to the recent spike in flu cases in Delhi.

The doctors say that upper respiratory tract infections, high-grade fever in all age groups, coughing, and weariness that lasts for a few weeks are the most typical symptoms that patients have been complaining of.

According to a recent LocalCircles study, 54% of Delhi families have reported having swine flu-like symptoms, including fever, sore throat, cough, headache, stomach difficulties, joint pain, and respiratory concerns. The public is concerned about these symptoms because they closely mimic coronavirus symptoms.

Why are there more cases in Delhi?

According to a CNBC report, environmental factors like high pollution levels and weather fluctuations are to blame for the increase in instances. Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) was 249 on Wednesday at 8 a.m., falling into the “poor” category.

The changing weather causes people to discard their winter clothes, which leads to acclimatization problems. According to doctors, temperature changes encourage viruses to multiply quickly, and pollen and air pollution exacerbate the spread of these viruses.

In light of the rising number of hospitalized patients exhibiting symptoms such as high fever, persistent cough, sore throat, and body aches, health care providers advise citizens to exercise caution. In addition, they advise individuals to wear a mask, wash their hands often, and get vaccinated against the flu each year.

What is H1NI Virus?

The influenza A virus, which causes infections of the upper and lower respiratory tracts, has a subtype called H1N1. Different pig, avian, and human influenza strains mingle to form the pandemic strain of H1N1, also referred to as swine flu.

Humans can contract swine influenza by coming into close contact with infected animals. There are three swine influenza subtypes that are circulating globally: H3N2, H1N2, and H1N1. During the 2009 pandemic, the H1N1 strain attracted a lot of attention.

Most people can recover from H1N1 if they receive treatment as soon as possible, which is further aided by rest, drinking more water, and receiving intensive medical care.
