What to watch on Netflix : Best Shows on Netflix

1) Orange is the New Black

Do not search what to watch on Netflix? One of Netflix’s first big successes remains one of its greatest shows. The first season begins when Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties engaged to her boyfriend of 10 years, is sentenced to prison for transporting drug money over a decade ago. She quickly learns that life inside is nothing like she imagined as she encounters new rules and new enemies. The series has won numerous awards including Emmy’s and Golden Globes. It was created by Jenji Kohan and stars Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Jason Biggs and Uzo Aduba.

2) Marvel’s Daredevil

Marvel’s Daredevil is one of four original series from Netflix (and Marvel) that will lead up to a Defenders mini-series. Daredevil follows Matt Murdock, an attorney in Hell’s Kitchen who operates in a world where blind people can see using other heightened senses, and takes justice into his own hands. The series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. It’s dark, it’s moody, it has comic book action and great character development. The second season is expected in 2016 and if you haven’t caught up yet then you should start now! This show is definitely worth watching on any screen available!

3) Chef’s Table

Chef’s Table is a documentary-style series that offers an inside look at what it takes to cook at a high level. For example, in one episode, Chef Grant Achatz describes how he used his research skills and creativity to invent a new way to cook his scrambled eggs. Spoiler alert: He uses liquid nitrogen! If you’re interested in cooking, be sure check out Chef’s Table as well as Hot Girls Wanted and its sequel Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On. All three are available for streaming on Netflix.

4) Grace and Frankie

The character-driven comedy centers around a long-divorced pair of former spouses—Jane Fonda’s Grace and Lily Tomlin’s Frankie—who find themselves reassessing their lives when they both fall in love with, and marry, handsome younger men. The show’s delightful writing and snappy pacing, mixed with an attractive cast (especially Martin Sheen as Jane’s new beau), have made it an unexpected Netflix sleeper hit. It may not have Orange Is The New Black ’s pop culture cachet just yet, but it does everything its critically acclaimed predecessor does better.

5) Sense8

Sensates experience a shared consciousness. They’re all connected, regardless of where they are in physical space. This show follows a group of strangers as they learn what it means to be connected and how their abilities can help them stop a man who seeks nothing less than control over humanity itself. You don’t have to be a fanboy or fangirl to love Sense8; it features excellent writing, world-building, and acting from its international cast—and if you stick with it through Season 1’s slightly disjointed (but very interesting) story arc, you’ll be rewarded with one of TV’s most unique shows.

6) Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

From master producer Tina Fey, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follows Kimmy (Ellie Kemper), a bubbly blonde who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York City. She finds work as a nanny for an aging real estate mogul (played by Jane Krakowski) and meets her roommate, Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess), a flamboyantly gay aspiring actor who works at Barney’s department store. Meanwhile, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) co-stars as Jacqueline Voorhees, manager of Squiggy’s comedy club. Once you’ve watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s first season through on Netflix, consider reading other streaming sites that don’t require paying for its shows.

7) Peaky Blinders

This British gangster series is loosely based on real events that occurred after World War I in England, and it’s currently in its third season. The story follows Tommy Shelby, who becomes a leader of a gang after his brother’s death. His aim is to move up from small-time crime and gain power, using violence when necessary. This show isn’t for everyone because it contains violence and nudity—but if you like tense dramas filled with twists and turns (not unlike Game of Thrones), you’ll love Peaky Blinders. Season 1 is available now; seasons 2 and 3 are coming soon.

8) Marco Polo

Fans of Shakespeare in Love won’t want to miss out on Marco Polo, a historical drama about a 13th-century explorer (and merchant) who lands himself in courtly intrigue. Equally action-packed and romantic, it’s one helluva journey. Just don’t get too attached—the show was cancelled in 2016. But its stars, including Joan Chen and Benedict Wong, can be found elsewhere on Netflix.

Conclusion

For anyone looking for something what to watch on Netflix in late 2022, or anything you want to catch up on from last year, here are eight great shows from Netflix’s list that might fit your tastes. Remember that Orange is The New Black is going offline soon (so set those watches and get ready), but many of these other titles won’t disappear any time soon.
