Katy Perry exits American Idol after seven seasons

Date:

Katy Perry has announced her departure from American Idol after serving as a judge for seven seasons on the popular talent show.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, the 39-year-old singer revealed, “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol.”

Elaborating on her decision, she expressed her desire to “go see the world” and hinted at upcoming music projects.

Perry has been a fixture on the ABC show since 2018, bringing her unique perspective and energy to the judging panel.

The announcement came after Jimmy Kimmel inquired about the duration of her tenure on American Idol. Reflecting on her time on the show, Perry shared, “It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”

While indicating her departure, she left the door open for a potential return, stating, “Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day.”

Perry’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live coincided with the premiere of American Idol’s twenty-second season, where she shares judging duties with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Discussing her decision with her fellow judges, Perry revealed, “They know I have some things planned for this year… I’m creating space for my new wingspan.”

In addition to her role on American Idol, Perry reminisced about her performance for King Charles III at his televised Coronation Concert last year, highlighting the influence of Lionel Richie in facilitating the collaboration.

Addressing a viral moment at Westminster Abbey during the Coronation Service, Perry humorously recounted her struggles to find her seat, acknowledging the potential obstruction caused by her vibrant fascinator.

Perry, known for hits like “I Kissed A Girl” and “California Gurls,” has been a prominent figure in the music industry since her breakthrough in 2008. Her departure from American Idol marks the end of a successful chapter in her career, allowing her to explore new opportunities and ventures.

Despite her departure, Perry’s impact on American Idol and her contributions to the music industry will continue to resonate with fans worldwide.
