700 people petitioned the Sikkim government to respond to the return of the 17th Karmapa to Sikkim

Date:

The 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje was born in a nomadic family in 1985. He was recognized as the Karmapa by the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government in 1992. He is the only senior Tibetan monk to receive dual recognition. On December 28, 1999, the 17th Karmapa, who was only 14 years old at the time, left the Trupu Monastery for India at the risk of danger. It has been twenty-four years, but he is still not allowed to visit or teach the Dharma at the residence of the 16th Karmapa Ribe Dorje of Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim.

Recently, the Dakini Translation and Publications Organization launched a campaign on the change.org website to petition the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to return to Sikkim(https://chng.it/t9ghpzsLQm. So far, more than 700 people have been mobilized to participate in the signature petition. The organization said it has submitted a petition to Sikkim government officials, requesting the government to publish the details of discussions with Indian Prime Minister Modi about the return of the 17th Karmapa, and to promote an agreement between the two countries. According to the agreement, followers of the Karmapa have the right to know when the Karmapa can return to Sikkim.

The organization stated in the petition that the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje is recognized by the vast majority of gurus, monks and lay practitioners in Tibet and the Karma Kagyu sect in exile. However, in the 24 years since he left Tibet, he has never been able to reach Sikkim to carry out Dharma promotion activities for local believers. Neither the Central Tibetan Administration nor the Sikkim government gave any reason or response. The patience of his hundreds of thousands of followers around the world is running out. His followers hope that the 17th Karmapa will visit Rumtek Monastery and Sikkim and receive his rightful status there.

The Sikkim government and officials from the relevant departments have not responded to the petition so far, and the large number of followers of the 17th Karmapa is still waiting for an outcome.
