Surya Grahan 2025 in India: Will the solar eclipse tomorrow have a Sutak period?

Date:

Surya Grahan 2025 in India: The solar eclipse on March 29, Shanischari Amavasya, will begin at 2:21 PM (IST) and end at 6:14 PM, lasting for 3 hours and 53 minutes.

The first solar eclipse of the year will occur on March 29 (Saturday). As per Indian time, it will last from 2:21 PM to 6:14 PM. This will be a partial solar eclipse, visible in North America, Western Europe, Northwestern Africa, and Russia. According to astronomers, this solar eclipse could be dangerous. Let’s find out why it is considered hazardous.

This time, the solar eclipse will be partial, occurring when the Moon is relatively farther from Earth. As a result, it appears smaller and doesn’t completely cover the Sun’s corona. However, in some regions, it will cover up to 93.8% of the Sun’s disk. The Nunavik village in Northern Quebec, Canada, will witness the maximum eclipse.

Why Can This Solar Eclipse Be Dangerous?

According to experts, the Sun will never be fully covered during this eclipse, making it dangerous to view with the naked eye. To watch the eclipse safely, eclipse glasses or solar filters are essential. Sunglasses are not recommended, as they do not provide adequate protection. Always use certified solar filters to avoid permanent eye damage.

Sutak Period During Solar Eclipse in India

In religious beliefs, the Sutak period is considered inauspicious, during which all auspicious activities are prohibited. It typically begins 9 to 12 hours before a solar eclipse. However, the Sutak period is only applicable if the eclipse is visible in a particular region.

Since the first solar eclipse of 2025 will not be visible in India, the Sutak period will not be applicable in the country.
