On Friday, Dominic Raab, the British Deputy Prime Minister and justice minister, resigned after an independent investigation into allegations of bullying. In a letter posted on Twitter addressed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Raab expressed concern that the inquiry had established a dangerous precedent, but he would continue to support the government.
“I called for the inquiry and undertook to resign, if it made any finding of bullying whatsoever. I believe it is important to keep my word,” Raab said.
Raab said, “In setting the threshold for bullying so low, this inquiry has set a dangerous precedent. It will encourage spurious complaints against Ministers, and have a chilling effect on those driving change on behalf of your government – and ultimately the British people.”
Since Sunak came to Downing Street promising a government of integrity in October, Raab’s resignation marks the departure of the third senior minister due to personal conduct issues.
