Delhi Police Requests Arvind Kejriwal to Provide Evidence Regarding Poaching Allegations

Date:

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has formally requested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to furnish evidence supporting his allegations that the BJP offered ₹25 lakh to seven of its MLAs to defect from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Arvind Kejriwal has been given until Monday to submit the evidence.

Last month, Mr. Kejriwal claimed that the BJP had threatened his impending arrest in the Delhi Liquor Police case and had approached about 21 AAP MLAs, seven of whom were offered ₹25 lakh each to switch sides.

The purported conversation outlined a sinister plot to destabilize the AAP government in Delhi, according to Mr. Kejriwal.

“Recently, they [BJP] contacted 7 of our MLAs in Delhi and said – ‘We will arrest Kejriwal after a few days. After that, we will approach the MLAs. Talks have been held with 21 MLAs. Speaking to others as well. After that, we will topple the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi. You can also come. Will give ₹25 crore and contest the elections on BJP ticket,” Mr. Kejriwal posted on X – formerly known as Twitter.

The Chief Minister suggested that these alleged attempts to destabilize his government stem from the AAP’s commendable work in the national capital. Despite facing various challenges, Mr. Kejriwal added that the people of Delhi have immense affection for AAP, making it challenging for the BJP to defeat them in elections.

A team from the Delhi Police visited Mr. Kejriwal’s residence on Friday to serve a notice, but sources indicated that the individuals at his home declined to accept it.

The police team revisited the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday, and the notice was eventually handed over to the officials present at his house.

Delhi Minister Atishi has also been served a notice today in connection with the poaching allegations.
