Outside a sheriff’s Department station on Wednesday, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was shot by someone in a nearby apartment building, authorities report. The building houses people with cases of mental illness.
Authorities begin searching for a suspect when Deputy Angel Reinosa, a 21-year-old trainee who was wounded in the shoulder. The deputy was wearing a ballistic vest that deflected the bullet to his shoulder, said Mayor R. Rex Parris.
Sheriff’s Capt. Tods Weber informed that the deputy was walking to his car outside the Lancaster station just before 3 PM. Fellow deputies evacuated him inside to get medical attention. He suffered from a non-life threatening wound and was rushed to the hospital.

Investigators believe that the shot came from Mental Health America, a four-story building near sheriff’s station. Heavily armed deputies set up a perimeter and launched search for the suspect. Though it is not clear what type of weapon did the shooter use.
